Pac-10 Wrestling Championships

Civil War Basketball 2011

The University of Oregon continued their domination over Oregon State this year winning both men’s basketball games. I covered both of them for OSU and here are a few of the photos I took in a nice little slide show.

MCLA Photo Shoot

Last Year I shot a couple of games for the Oregon State club lacrosse team and the photos from those games have been viewed a few thousand times making them my most popular photos. This year MCLA Magazine (Mens Collegiate Lacrosse Association) called the team and asked if they could send the magazine a few team and profile photos. Since they did not have any the team contacted me because they knew me from last year’s photos. The magazine was looking for a few portrait photos of the team to use with the feature that will be written about the team in the February issue of magazine. I have never shots anything like this before but I think that the photos turned out pretty good for a first timer. Now I have to figure out how to get a copy of this magazine.

My Favorites of 2010

Since everyone and their dog seem to be posting a “best of” gallery I figured that I should also post a few of my favorite photos from 2010 as well (There may be additions to this post in the coming days because I always forget about a cool photo or two) I have never covered more events in one year before and I hope that continues into 2011.

Cyclocross Nationals 2010

Before my break even began I signed myself up for 4 days of shooting in extreme cold and standing around in mud. The USA cycling nationals were in Bend again this year and Pat Malach of Oregon Cycling Action asked me if I could shoot the races for him. This is the first time I have ever had a pass of any kind for a cycling event.

Since I don’t plan on figuring out when all these photos were taken because everyone can look the same and the whole event was over the course of four days they will all be out of order. But I will say that if you get a chance to attend a cyclocross race you should definitely check it out!

Civil War 2010

I looked at my WordPress blog for the first time in a very long time I thought, “better late than never” when I decided to post these photos. Thinking back on the game it was a mix of extreme fun and crushing disappointment, oh well. Since we had ESPN GameDay on location (and I was living on a friend’s couch and didn’t feel like going back to their house for just a couple of hours of sleep) I stayed up all night enjoying the Civil War atmosphere.

GameDay started at 6am but the students who planned on attending were there all night. I may have been one of the crazy students that didn’t sleep that night but I did have a place to warm up after all the buildings around the campus closed. At around 5am I went back to the Sports Information office, warmed up, watched some TV, and grabbed my cameras before heading back to the ESPN stage set up in the MU Quad.

I was given a pass to get backstage to the filming of GameDay because the school wanted photos. I love having special passes that allow me to get into places that others can’t go. But I also feel that with that privilege I should take photos that warrant the access.

After GameDay I went back to the Sports Information office and grabbed the rest of my camera equipment and headed up to the press box. Below is a photo of the zoo that we called the press box on Saturday.

The Friday before the game I spent about 2 hours helping set up the press box for the biggest game I, and many others at OSU, have ever seen. We had so many media coming to the game that we had to set up tables on the photo deck for some of the writers.

Some one in this photo does not belong in the OSU student section.

This was the deciding moment in my opinion. The Ducks had a third and long situation on their hands but they were helped out when the referees called pass-interference on OSU. In the photo below the play looks pretty clean to me!! I think this was a big momentum swinging play because the Beavs had made a couple big defensive plays and the OSU crowd really had Reser rockin and all the energy in the stadium just disappeared when OSU was penalized. There has got to be a better way of calling penalties.

After that play I pretty much called it a day because the game clearly was not going to be fun to watch so I snapped a shot of the stadium then headed up to the press box with about five minutes to go in the game. That way I could get through the stands before all the fans clogged up the stairways and to avoid contact with any Oregon fans when they rushed the field.

As a student I am 0-3 for Civil War wins. This is getting pretty irritating. Maybe next year will finally be the year for OSU to beat U of O while I’m a student.
